Tool & Equipment Tracker, coming soon

Asset tracking software that shows where every tool is, and who has it.

Scan a label with your phone to sign gear out and back in. See who has what, on which site, and what's due for a service or test and tag. It's coming soon: join the early list and tell us what you track.

what it will do

What the tool tracker is being built to do.

Two jobs most small businesses track badly: who has each item right now, and what each item needs next.

Who has it

Scan a label with a phone to sign an item out to a person, a site or a van, and back in when it returns.

  • A label on each item, scanned with any phone camera
  • Signed out to a person, a site or a van
  • Due-back dates, with a nudge when something is late

What it needs

Dates that matter for each item, so nothing lapses because the reminder lived in someone's head.

  • Service and test-and-tag due dates
  • Photos and notes on each item
  • A full list for insurance or an audit

labels, not GPS

No devices to fit. A label and a phone.

A lot of equipment tracking means GPS: a powered device on each item, reporting where it is. That's worth it for a truck or an excavator. It's overkill for a drill, a laser level or a ladder.

The tool tracker works the way people already lend things: whoever takes it, scans it. The record says who has it, where it went and when it's due back.

If you need live locations for vehicles or machinery, use a GPS tracker. If you need to know who walked off with the good drill, you need this.

the honest answer

Is a spreadsheet enough?

For a few dozen items and one person who keeps it up to date, often yes. A spreadsheet with an item, who has it and a date will do.

It stops working when gear moves between people who don't open the spreadsheet: on site, in a van, on a weekend. The record is only as good as the last person who forgot to update it. Scanning a label takes less effort than finding the file, so it actually gets done.

Need it built around how your business works, and more than tracking? That's custom business software, and the tracker can be where it starts.

What is asset tracking software?
Software that records what equipment a business owns, where each item is and who has it. For a small business that usually means tools, equipment and devices, signed out and back in with a phone, instead of a whiteboard or a spreadsheet nobody updates.
Is the tool tracker available now?
Not yet. It's coming soon. Join the early list and tell us what you need to track: we'll email you when it's ready to set up with your gear, and the answers people send shape what gets built first.
Does it need GPS trackers?
No. Each item gets a label, and scanning it with a phone records who took it and where it went. That suits hand tools and most equipment. If you need the live location of vehicles or machinery, a GPS tracker is the right tool, and this isn't one.
How much will it cost?
The price isn't set yet. People on the early list hear it first, before anything is charged.
Can it remind us about test and tag?
That's one of the things it's being built to do: hold each item's next test-and-tag or service date and remind you before it's due. It keeps the dates. The testing itself is still done by whoever does it now.
Can you build something around our business now?
Yes. If you can't wait, or you need more than tracking, we build custom software around how your business works, and the tracker can be its starting point.
